Integrating Third-Party Software Updates in SCCM: A Guide for Patch My PC and SCUP

Explore Our MECM / SCCM Training →

In this blog post, we delve into managing third-party software updates in System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM). We’ll focus on setting up Patch My PC or Software Update Catalog (SCUP) for third-party updates and discuss the process of publishing, deploying, and troubleshooting these updates within SCCM.

Subscribing to Third-Party Catalogs

To start, you’ll subscribe to a third-party catalog in the SCCM console or via Patch My PC. Once subscribed, configure catalog sync and approve updates for publication.

Publishing Third-Party Updates

After approving updates, they can be published to SCCM for distribution. The process is similar to publishing Microsoft updates, with the added step of ensuring third-party update vendors are trusted publishers within the SCCM console.

Deploying Third-Party Updates

Once published, third-party updates can be deployed via Software Update Groups (SUGs) just like Microsoft updates. You’ll find them in the Software Library workspace under Software Updates.

Troubleshooting Publication Failures

Occasionally, you may encounter issues when publishing third-party updates. Common causes include network connectivity issues, certificate errors, or publisher trust problems. Review SCCM logs and consult vendor documentation to resolve these issues.

Remember, managing third-party software updates in SCCM can significantly streamline your patch management process. For comprehensive training on SCCM, visit our Microsoft MECM Training course.
